A poem about music
Today, I'm supposed to be revising... which of course leads to plenty of procrastination. Part of that has been really valuable though - I listened to one of my favourite pieces of music, and wrote a poem about it. I'm pleased with it because I think the poem captures the moment better than any prosaic description I could write.
i'm listening to my favourite piece of music
the track has started, but i'm not captivated yet
first i feel a slow, gradual peace
and then an exquisite tap on the shoulder
and i am brought low, shaking, taking in a deep breath
it catches and i shudder as my mind is untwisted
now my whole self is on fire, and every second is filled with anxious, earnest promise
this truly is a moment of beautiful certainty
in which i no longer have to consider possibilities
in which i can reach out and gratefully kiss the future
thank God for music.
